Cooperative Energy, together with the 11 Member distribution cooperatives it serves, announced the award of a Cooperative Competes grant to the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce for site work at the Cleveland Airport North Industrial Site.
The North Industrial Site is approximately 20 acres on the northern runway of the Cleveland Municipal Airport. The airport is designated 36/18 and measures 5005 feet by 75 feet, with a full parallel taxiway. The airport has gained significant recognition and support from state and federal partners. It houses the Delta State University Commercial Aviation program. Additionally, four private businesses operate at the airport, and DSU employs more than 65 people. During the 2022 legislative session, DSU received funding to purchase five additional airplanes for training, expanding its commercial aviation program. Cleveland Municipal Airport was also allocated $1,000,000 to extend Airport Terminal Road.
The $25,000 Cooperative Competes grant will be used to assist with the clearing, excavating, and installation of select fill material for a new 15,000 sq. ft. site along the new concrete airport north apron. This will make the site ready for new building construction.
