Cooperative Competes Grant Awarded for Site Readiness of Lamar County Industrial Park

Cooperative Energy, together with the 11 Member distribution cooperatives it serves, announced today the award of a Cooperative Competes grant to the Lamar County Board of Supervisors for the proactive site readiness of the Lamar County Industrial Park.

The Lamar County Industrial Park is located within the city of Purvis and is less than five miles west of Interstate 59.  The Industrial Park is home to Lowe’s Flatbed Distribution Center, Yates Industrial Services and Evergreen Lumber & Truss, among others and has approximately 52-acres that remain available for development.  The industrial park has rail service provided by Norfolk Southern.

The $25,000 Cooperative Competes grant will be used to assist with an ALTA Survey and Geotechnical Soil borings, the final items of environmental due diligence required for proactive readiness of the 52-acre site.  This grant will also be used to clear and grub 22-acres of the site.

The development of the Lamar County Industrial Park has been bolstered by significant financial support through Cooperative Energy’s Cooperative Competes grant program, the Mississippi Development Authority Site Development Program, and local investment by the Lamar County Board of Supervisors. To date, $100,000 has been invested in the site to enhance its infrastructure, improve site readiness, and ensure it meets criteria for industrial development.

In 2024, the Lamar County Industrial Park enrolled into the Cooperative Energy SiteInvest program, making it eligible for Cooperative Competes grant funds.

The Cooperative Competes initiative is aimed at increasing community competitiveness and encouraging economic growth. A component of the initiative allows economic development organizations to apply for grant funds to support industrial property, workforce, or community development efforts throughout Mississippi. These funds are provided jointly by Cooperative Energy’s 11 Member distribution cooperatives.
