Hattiesburg, Miss. (September XX, 2024) — Cooperative Energy, together with the 11 Member distribution cooperatives it serves, announced today the award of a Cooperative Competes grant to Greene County Board of Supervisors for the proactive site readiness of the Greene County Rail Site.
The $13,500 Cooperative Competes grant will be used to assist with an ALTA Survey, the final item of environmental due diligence required for proactive readiness of the site.
The development of the Greene County Rail Site has been bolstered by significant financial support through Cooperative Energy’s Cooperative Competes grant program, the Mississippi Development Authority Site Development Program, and local investment by the Greene County Board of Supervisors. To date, $119,500 has been invested in the site to enhance its infrastructure, improve site readiness, and ensure it meets criteria for industrial development.
In addition to financial investment, the Greene County Rail Site was recently designated a SiteInvest Premier Property by Cooperative Energy. The industrial site, located near McLain, is one of only six sites across the Cooperative Energy territory to receive this designation after a thorough review process, including rigorous evaluation by third-party engineering experts, Burns & McDonnell.
The Cooperative Competes initiative is aimed at increasing community competitiveness and encouraging economic growth. A component of the initiative allows economic development organizations to apply for grant funds to support industrial property, workforce, or community development efforts throughout Mississippi. These funds are provided jointly by Cooperative Energy’s 11 Member distribution cooperatives.
