At Cooperative Energy, we are incorporating more green power resources to help protect Mississippi’s environment and keep our air and water clean for future generations. Plus, maintaining a mix of diverse energy sources helps protect both power availability and affordability, keeping your lights on and your energy bills low.
Solar
With solar energy, the future is bright.
Solar power is a leading form of environmentally friendly energy. Panels are used to collect sunlight, which is then converted into electricity. Our members asked for solar power and it’s just one way we help keep the environment clean where we work, live and play.
Small solar sites
We currently operate nine small-scale solar sites at Coahoma, Coast, Delta, Dixie, Magnolia, Singing River, Southern Pine, Twin County, Yazoo Valley electric power cooperatives. Each installation is 100 kilowatts or less. Starting with small solar facilities across the state allowed us to determine the best location, technology and proper configurations for future solar facilities. We’re making certain our investments are sound, economical and successful for our members.

Larger Solar Facilities
Cooperative Energy and partner Origis Energy USA began commercial operation of a 52 MW solar facility in Lamar County, Mississippi, in December 2017. The Lamar County facility incorporates more than 206,000 polycrystalline solar modules into a single axis ground mounted design on 540 acres. Origis Energy developed, constructed, and operates the electric generation site from which Cooperative Energy purchases all the power produced.
Cooperative Energy and partner Cubico Buffalo Holdings I, LLC, began commercial operation of a 100 MW solar facility in Carroll County in November 2023. Delta's Edge, located near Greenwood, incorporates approximately 250,000 panels on a 750-acre site. Cooperative Energy purchases all power produced at the site.
Hydro
Harnessing the power of water.
Hydropower is a cost-effective, renewable and reliable resource. Cooperative Energy receives wholesale hydropower from several reservoirs and dams operated by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA), which is headquartered in Georgia.
Protecting the Environment

Cooperative Energy has transitioned its generation fleet to one that is nimble, efficient, and flexible through the repowering and revitalization of our power generation units and investing in renewable energy sources. Industry-leading management practices also enable us to responsibly deliver power while protecting this place we all call home.
Cooperative Energy supports renewable energy options when they make sense for our Members. One example is Delta’s Edge, a 100 MW solar site that began commercial operation in November 2023. We also support the addition of distributed generation resources such as rooftop solar panels.
Cooperative Energy practices Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) to promote environmental sustainability while protecting utility infrastructure and access to it. IVM uses environmentally sound, cost-effective practices to encourage the growth of desirable, low-growing vegetation that resists invasive, non-native, or tall-growing species. These desirable habitats maintain rights-of-way that are conducive to delivering reliable power, yet also support pollinator areas and wildlife habitats that allow species to thrive, including the gopher tortoise and black bear.
Since 2005, we have reduced our CO2 emissions, on a rate basis, by 42% without sacrificing reliability.
Each of our electric cooperatives reaches out on a local level to help make communities a better place. We participate in MLK Cooperative Day of Service, Adopt-a-Highway, Habitat for Humanity, Earth Day programs, and many more.
